There is an e-mail address on the above page where the public can submit suggestions for topics to be discussed at this workshop. The public can also submit comments online for the topics that have been discussed (though there are already comments being made ahead of time).
The gaming public needs to get their input in (including making sure the FTC doesn’t only look at the effects on minors). Loot boxes IMHO need to be banned completely since the gaming industry has proven their inability to police themselves properly when utilizing this as part of their monetization (like being more transparent by posting the actual odds or implementing reasonable fail-safes).
I’m not a strong proponent of government regulation BUT as noted, the gaming industry has proven they’ve been unable to regulate themselves in this area (let alone the multitude of other issues that plagues this specific industry including crunch and harassment). This loot box issue is just a starting point to get the gaming industry to begin cleaning up their act. Anyone who games and despises some of the microtransaction business models that these companies employ, should put their two cents in on this issue.
The following from 2016 should also be required viewing as to why this predatory practice needs to stop (yes, he did say “I’ll leave the morality out of the talk” when he mentioned about some of the tricks that are employed; and lot of it is based on behavioral psychology and preying on people’s addictive tendencies – and he is doing this talk in front of other company executives looking into ways of monetizing their mobile titles but is also applicable to PC/console games). This is from 3 years ago where the brainstorming to come up with even more exploitive/manipulative game system designs, did not come to a stop).
