The company announced last week (August 30th) that Heart of Thorns (the first expansion for Guild Wars 2) would now be bundled for free when Path of Fire (the second expansion) was purchased. The rationale for this decision was so that content could be designed inclusive of all available masteries from both expansions.
Additionally, the company is also offering refunds or compensation in gems depending on when Heart of Thorns (either alone or in one of the Path of Fire bundles) was purchased; cash refund or gem compensation for purchases made between July 31, 2019 12:00AM PST and August 30, 2019 11:59PM PST while only gem compensation for purchases made between July 1, 2019 12:00AM PST-July 30, 2019 11:59PM PST. Only purchases made from the Guild Wars 2 Store or in-game are eligible.
Heart of Thorns will be automatically added to player accounts that purchased Path of Fire. There is a detailed support (FAQ) document covering all the details.
