TERA – Patch v88 Preview

Gameforge (TERA EU) posted the patch notes for the upcoming patch v88 (they will be deploying it on December 10th).  While the update mirrors most of K-TERA’s patch v88, there is an addition for the level 68+ content which I believe has not (yet?) been including in that region to date (they are on v89).

This includes a new non-tradable/non-salvageable version of the level 69 (yellow) Annihilation or Dark Light gear.  The item does not have random stats, requires fewer enchanting items, and cannot regress on failed enchants.  This version isn’t as strong as the existing non-soulbound items due to the lack of the random property lines and stats which they can roll (the other basic stats will be identical though).

The acquisition of this gear is via a new (yet another) token that can be earned from the Vanguard for the main Exodor Fortress dungeon or can be purchased for 2000 reputation points from any of the Exodor factions (from completing Exodor dailies).  20 of these “medal” tokens are required to acquire each gear slot (lots of grinding either way).  The objective of this new setup is to make it “easier” to acquire and enchant this level 69 gear with a tradeoff in overall power (and inability to be traded) and was added as part of the changes that Bluehole/Krafton will be making to address some of the negative feedback reaction players have been expressing with these recent updates.

Enchanting and repairing material (feedstock and ores) drop rates are also being increased (as drops from Exodor mobs).  All server accounts without 300 Enhancement Points (EP) will now start off unlocked with this amount and existing accounts that have not reached 300 points, will be automatically bumped up to this amount.

While this is just an ok starting point, none of this addresses the unfun grind aspect where there isn’t that much positive reinforcement associated with it.  By the time you grind out enough dungeon completions and/or Exodor reputation (from those mindnumbing dailies) to get enough medal tokens to purchase each piece of gear, you’ll be burnt out from running this same stuff.  It doesn’t help that the success rate for enchanting is so low to begin with (again, what fun is there when you fail enchanting 10+ times in a row; I get this on rare blue tier gear just trying to go to +1).  I guess we will need to see over the next month once this update goes live, but I doubt it will that much of an improvement unless it also reduces the failure rates on enchanting blue Dauntless and Manaforce items.
