XLGAMES – Superior Quality Programming (NOT)

When you have a game client that is the main front end to what players use to play your game service (in this case, I am talking about ArcheAge and ArcheAge Unchained), you would think issues like the user interface elements and certain key graphics and audio settings, would save and persist.  You would think some basic level of quality assurance along with some basic general pride, would dictate having those issues resolved before even signing off on such builds being released as production/live service quality which can be provisioned for public use (where we the players, get to experience all of the bugs).

But nope.  Not with XLGAMES (or even Bluehole for that matter).  XL however has some of the worst client coding period though where they obviously don’t even bother to test this stuff internally.  They don’t seem to even take any sort of pride in this area which is reflective of their executive “leadership” on down.  If they treated personal hygiene like how they treat the coding that is done in this game, they would wipe once after taking a crap, and call it a quality cleaning.

Not even the base graphics and audio settings stick.  I have to constantly reset my graphics to 2560×1400 and to borderless window, and then turn down the audio settings before it begins blasting out the BGM.  And once in game, UI elements don’t save to the positions you want them to be.  Not even the chat settings are saved (I made the initial mistake of spending a lot of time setting up new tabs only to find it reset back to the default 3).  It’s like there is an actual troll programmer at XL doing this for the lulz.  Some of these settings are stored client side while the rest are server sided.  Kakao had to hear it over the entire weekend about this annoyance (which they acknowledge) and could only offer up an apology saying the dev team knows, but are right now prioritizing the transfer issues.

I guess XL has never heard of having different teams to sort out different issues.  You would think they would have a team dedicated to the game client versus the entire team working on the backend issues.  Oh wait, they have what amounts to a skeleton crew for AA/AAU since most of the design and development resources have been dedicated to that other project (ArcheAge 2).  Basically it’s not a priority to XL until they can pull off some person from AA2 to go back and look at the list of issues with AA/AAU.  It’s not like the UI not saving is a new thing either.  It’s been happening since I started playing (2015); though more of the settings are now saved server side.  Which says a lot about their code management and regression testing.

Basically, this game of theirs is a test of ones fortitude for being constantly abused (or seeing how much stupidity one can tolerate before walking away).  Obviously, my fortitude and tolerance is on the high side since I continue to play this.  Sometimes, I wish I had the actual physical dexterity to kick myself in the head so that I would just stop and walk away from this like I did with Blizzard.
