Treasure Goblin Portal (Greed’s Realm)

The rewards from this are probably going to get nerfed really hard given the multiplicative effect of gold find.  Myself, I don’t care one way or another because gold can’t be traded and the game no longer has an economy due to soul binding.

But the D3 devs have NEVER been generous when it comes to rewards and 100 million gold sans magic find plus tons of experience plus 2-3 legendary drops per realm, means that the same degenerative game play they’ve been trying to avoid, is exactly what would happen if this remains.  Basically, players are going to end up farming for treasure goblins (one area it potentially does spawn is the Dark Cellar in Act I, Old Tristram).

So players are going to be doing this game flipping again to first get the treasure goblin to spawn (and even then, there is only a chance that it will open up the portal).

Fun and rewarding?  Hell yes.  But that’s a point that is totally lost on this development team.  Making the rest of the game something like this (though toned down such that the totality of the game would result in this sort of fun and rewarding feel when smashing monsters in the face) would allow them to make areas like this slightly more rewarding without causing the degenerative types of game play because players would not feel compelled to just one run area of the game (when the rest of the game can be as rewarding).

And this is why I don’t see Greed’s Realm shipping this way once patch 2.1 goes live.  They aren’t going to want this one area of the game to detract from both Seasons and Greater Rifts.
