Patch 2.4 – Stash tab

There is currently some confusion as to the unlocking of additional stash tabs in patch 2.4 beyond the initial one that can be purchased.

This is what Blizzard said (just covering what is PC specific):

• One additional Stash Space Tab will be available for 500,000 gold once 2.4 goes live
• Each Season Journey completed will award you with another Stash Tab, for a maximum of 10 Tabs total

The following is the screenshot from the panel:

Where the confusion is happening is with the demo video they showed during the panel.  The relevant discussion about stash space occurs at the around the 47m40s mark in the following.

Martens talks about unlocking more stash tabs via every season journey that is completed.  The demo shows a tab unlocking at the Conqueror chapter.

The demo video cuts back to the stash showing the 1 extra tab that was earned.  Many are taking this as confirmation of how the stash tab unlocks will work because if there was a stash tab unlocked for the previous chapters, there should have been more tabs unlocked. The Season Journey itself is comprised of 9 different chapters.  The first four chapters do not have any names associated with them.  These first four are pretty easily completable by anyone.

From Chapter V onwards, each one has a specific name with objectives that grow in difficulty and challenge.  Chapter V = Slayer, Chapter VI = Champion, Chapter VII = Destroyer, Chapter VIII = Conqueror, Chapter IX = Guardian

The video seems like proof enough that only one stash tab was unlocked at Conqueror.  But even that doesn’t make sense if the design team means “completing each Season Journey” if they are using that term in the sense of completing ALL 9 chapters.  Thus the demo video should’ve shown this being earned at Chapter IX: Guardian.  The in-game description of the Season Journey also adds to the fire since once you complete the chapters, it prompts you if you want to continue the “journey”.

This might be a case of both poor wording and poor scripting of the demonstration video.  If they meant that only ONE stash tab could be earned per season, they would’ve clearly put that in the summary or mentioned it verbally.  Using the term “Season Journey” can be interpreted as meaning all 9 chapters (since that is what the entire achievement system is referred to) or completing the main chapters along the journey.  And that is why there are some folks interpreting this to mean it’s 1 single stash tab per season since if it is 1 stash tab per successfully completing each chapter, then the stash would’ve shown more tabs in the above video (again, the video could just be poorly scripted).

If it is only one stash tab that can be earned each season, it could potentially take up to an years worth of seasonal play (if they are all 3 months long + whatever interval between each season) to fully unlock all the tabs.  That doesn’t make sense to gate the unlocks for that long.

PTR will clear this up unless a community manager addresses this before then.  Myself, I believe it is poor wording and poor video demonstration scripting where the video demo forgot to take the previous ones into account when showing the amount of actual tabs that would normally be unlocked by the time Conqueror is completed.  This is why I’m staying out of the arguments for now including all the seasonal versus non-seasonal crap that is happening right now.

If they do intend to gate it for that long and make it so that it is much more difficult to obtain that one tab person (since Conqueror isn’t exactly casual friendly), then I do have a very long piece of feedback regarding that ready to go.
