When Jake Song returned to XLGAMES in 2018, a lot of people expected he was returning to work full time again on ArcheAge. While he did spend part of his time on the IP, most of his time was dedicated to his new mobile MMO pet project, Moonlight Sculptor. The mobile title launched first in Korea in October 2019, with the “global” (NA/EU/Asia) version launching on May 24, 2021.
Kakao Games Europe announced they will be terminating the service on May 4th (just a few weeks short of its 2nd year of service).
I remember giving it a try and played for all of 30 minutes (it was your typical auto play mobile MMO with a lot of the usual mobile cash shop monetization). The art style was nice but that was about it. I do feel bad for those who are fans of the game though (in what has become an industry norm with design studios putting in thousands of hours creating these games and only to have them shutdown 2 years later in what I view as a conscious decision to quickly monetize them in the first few months, then just milking it the rest of the way until it is no longer breaking even).
