Normally when a company is on the verge of a release, marketing begins doing the usual PR in order to begin building hype for that product.
MU Legend is already operating in South Korea but the global launch still only has a very vague “Summer 2017” launch.
And yet, there is almost no marketing whatsoever. Not even the usual Founders pack thing which has become an established norm in this circle. The cynical part of me has a hard time believing there isn’t some type of cash grab involved somewhere in the business plan. So I guess this is a “time will tell” thing as to how they’ll be monetizing the game via their cash shop.
As far as the PR, when you look at their official Facebook page (for the global version), official postings (like the following) leave you scratching your head as to just how little they are actively marketing their product.
Make no mistake, I do like how their social and community management are engaging with their community (will see how that goes once the game goes live) but it seems like they have absolutely no marketing plan in place for the global launch.
Myself, I already
mentioned my issues with this game. I provided fairly detailed/lengthy feedback in the surveys they provided. I am not naive enough (knowing how often the actual designers/developers file a lot of that feedback into the trash) to believe any of that will be actioned on where my initial impressions of the combat will change any in the open beta soft launch. Many folks that I know are eagar to get started with this but I’m ambivalent as to how much of an improvement the game play will actually be for myself.
Impactful/visceral combat is an important facet which is why I always praise the technical aspect that Blizzard excelled at with Diablo III in this area. It’s why I enjoyed Devilian a lot and why I also enjoy TERA’s action combat (over a lot of the newer style tabbed targeting systems like the one used in ArcheAge).
I just don’t get Webzen’s lack of pre-hype for this game though especially when two traditional 2.5D isometric instanced games will be releasing updates (Diablo III’s Rise of the Necromancer pack and Path of Exile’s Fall of Oriath expansion) around the June/July timeframe. I intend to play through Path of Exile’s entire campaign in this expansion in order to experience the full story (so that is something which will be occupying part of my time). Webzen isn’t providing anything compelling now to at least whet players appetite or at least trying to increase the anticipation for their game.
