Diablo IV – Open Beta Disconnects and Queues

Despite Blizzard’s heads up about lengthy queues given this weekends “free for all” open beta, I was able to login within 5 minutes at launch.  The biggest issue in the first 5.5 hours, is severe rubber banding and sudden disconnects.   Certain transition zones (like the Kyovashad eastern gate) are overloaded so you see lot of players hitting that invisible barrier while running out (what I do is slow down and stop around that area in order to give the backend time to place my character in the appropriate instance).  Other spots are a lot more sensitive and I get immediately disconnected (as of this writing, 3 disconnects but still lower queue times than last week; so far, 9, 6, and 39 minutes) since if you rubber band too much, the server and client just disconnects you.  Compared to last week, I’ve disconnected much less and the queue times so far have been shorter.

I started with druid but like barb, the melee combat is slow going at the start (I realize both classes will feel better with more skill points allocated along with better gear).  However, during these limited betas, I wanted to play classes that delivered the fun early on.  So I switched to necromancer, and it’s similarly strong like the sorceress is early on.  As of this writing, I’m only level 12 and haven’t yet gotten any legendaries to do any sort of build yet, but it’s far more fun to play.
I will do a longer write up once this open beta weekend comes to an end.
