Once again, someone else sees that Trion Worlds played a major role with the population decrease (which was the main impetus for them making this video even though he acknowledges the game isn’t literally dead).
I made a comment on the above regarding similar hallmarks with how Trion played a role in the population decrease of their other 3rd party published title, Devilian. By comparison, ArcheAge is on much more firmer ground while Devilian isn’t (based on facts that I’ve posted about before on this blog).
Unlike ArcheAge which had a massive player population at the start, Devilian probably only hit 5 digits (and 4 digits at max concurrency). As noted before, the game now has a couple of hundred players (based on player ranking data in-game extrapolating for 2-3 alt characters per player) on each regional server. And those numbers show a continual decline each month.
ArcheAge is a game that is online in Korea unlike Devilian though. The latter has all the signatures of a game that has a high probability of being shuttered once its publishing contract comes close to its expiration/auto-renewal date. Trion has already cut operational expenses to the bone which is a sign that even ongoing revenue from it has not been meeting key metrics. I am personally pressed to see any positives due to development side constraints with Bluehole Ginno that would at least stem the population losses (and inevitable revenue declines).
