D3’s community management highlighted their area on the map for their blog posting.
And it’s near the bathrooms again! The funny part is they even colored the bathroom part in red. The following is 2016’s map where the booth was near the restrooms.
One of the complaints leading up to Blizzcon 2015 was how small the Diablo area was where it was shoved off into the back corner and represented as being smaller than the restroom (below).
Blizzcon 2015 is pivotal to this since it was during that convention when former D3 community manager Grimiku (Marcus Bishop) made an off the cuff comment to the effect that “at next years Blizzcon, Diablo fans are going to lose their shit” (he was terminated from Blizzard after Blizzcon 2015 ended).
I joked in several now deleted threads leading into Blizzcon 2016 that the reason the D3 booth was now right by the bathrooms was due to Grimiku’s comment about how Diablo fans would lose their shit (so they placed the booth near the bathroom so that players would not have to go far to find a toilet when they lost their shit).
There are many at Blizzard who sort of share the same sort of off the wall humor that I have (it’s why some came up with the idea of Whimsyshire as a way to poke fun at their own decision to go with some of the brighter/painterly art style they went with and all the complaints that came from the community about that art style where someone made comments about how Blizzard might as well throw rainbows and unicorns into the game). So I found it funny to see that they have their booth near the bathrooms again and that they even highlighted it in red.
