Finally found the time to get this pre-Fate of Arun private server setup and running. I wanted to experience the original opening and starter zone of TERA (since I played just a little at launch before D3 ended taking up most of my time) and the only way to do that was by setting up my own private server.
This really turned out to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane seeing the old intro again and more so loading into the game with a new character as the colorful cinematic played to bring the character onto the Island of Dawn. This is IMHO, still so much better than the current opening with Stepstone Island.
The following video (which was really well done since the character is in the same spots during the transitions), shows what the island was transformed into after the 2016 Dawnfall update where it is now a “burnt to a crisp” level 65 zone (and frankly depressing looking compared to the original).
This is why I am a proponent of the DMCA exemption that would extend to MMO’s since I would like to have the ability to be able to play content that was previously in the game (but had been changed drastically and/or completely removed).
