Back in November 2017, I did a “one year” retrospective of this game when I decided to give it another go. I never did get that Trickster to max level though; I hit a whopping level 11 because once I hit the open world questing, the experience gains once again was noticeably slower compared to all the starter zone quests and those in the initial hub town.
I know that for a period of time (an year), the development of the game had come to a standstill (WeMade Entertainment) posted a development blog on the Nexon site regarding that and were looking to change that in 2018.
Part of this re-energized development resulted in a new class, the Magician (with the Dawn of the Magician update that was released on July 26th). The class re-uses the same loli character model that was used for the Trickster (since it seems like Magicians are a rarer breed from that same lineage). Nexon is also running a bunch of month long events in order to drum up interest. Curiosity once again got the better of me and I jumped into the game to level one after the patch went live.
The class is rated as difficult probably because it requires a very active playstyle (it has both ranged and melee abilities) where you need to move around (a game play style I normally enjoy). As of this writing, I haven’t been able to really get a feel for that combat though.
I’ll also be honest; the game doesn’t have much of a population left (at least on my server) since it seems there were only a few long playing folks leveling up this “new” class. Once I got to the first main hub (Hakain’s Crossing), the Victory Plaza area had maybe 4 other players (one of them a new Magician who was AFK and the others were high levels). Again, this was right after the update went live. I tried changing channels but there was no difference (again, it could be the server I am playing on as there is still 3 of them).
The XP gains seemed much faster this time since I had already hit level 11 before even getting to the tutorial quest for taming a familiar. I ended up logging out at that point because the game just felt generally depressing (I was hoping to at least catch a glimpse of a bunch of low levels running around just to see how the town looked that way since I’ve only seen it mostly empty).
I might try once more again during the weekend but I kind of doubt it will be any better (maybe the open world questing and leveling will feel a bit better). If anything, I will probably just reach my highest character level in the game but kind of doubt I will even make it to 20 before I get that feeling to logout.
UPDATE: I got a bit further this weekend making it to level 16. I might actually make it to 20 this time around (and possibly more if the questing doesn’t become too monotonous).
