I didn’t even realize that Guild Wars 2 was coming out with another expansion (this soon after End of Dragons) called Secrets of the Obscure (launches on August 22).
This one looks really good because it provides an alternative path to getting the skyscale mount. Back in 2019 (during my leveling via exploration spree), I was planning to go through the process of unlocking the flying mount (starting with the griffon since the skyscale was a far more lengthy and costly endeavor).
When the Icebrood Saga episode launched in September 2019, the map had these skyscale roosts that allowed you to go to them to spawn a skyscale that you could use temporarily in this map. Having “sampled” the griffon from unlocking the mount collection for it, the skyscale was definitely much better (and as I wrote back then, decided that would be my focus). I slowly stopped playing Guild Wars 2 around this time though since ArcheAge Unchained was launching (in October 2019), so I never did get started on that.
I didn’t purchase End of Dragons (which also seemed to have this temporary method to utilize the skyscale) last year, but do plan on purchasing Secrets of the Obscure first since it seems like the perfect time to jump back into the game (and also redo my character). Being able to explore the game world with the skyscale offers a different method AND point of view, and if that proves to be engaging in this expansion, I will probably pickup End of Dragons later.
UPDATE: I logged in, and momentarily forgot how to get back to the Desert Oasis (the letter in your inventory that teleports you back there for free). Just a lot of the game play aspects was a huge fog since the last time I played was when they ran Living World Season 2 for free again (where I was doing the part that took place in The Grove). I don’t remember half of what the stuff in my inventory does either. This is going to be interesting just trying to re-learn the basics.
