Yes, I played the 2nd update for Guild Wars 2 Secret of the Obscure expansion “Through the Veil” which was released last week (November 7th). The story portion was much shorter than I expected which made the whole thing feel jarring. Additionally, piecemealing/parceling out the storyline for a major expansion like this, doesn’t work well (IMHO) unless more of that story line is better compartmentalized. Like it’s easy to forget story details from several months ago. And this portion being relatively short, is going to be forgettable by the time the next update is released early next year.
There were three chapters released as part of continuing story. It didn’t help that two of those chapters of the story objectives was first completing events on the new Inner Nayos map (translation: it made the story even shorter). This new map itself, felt small; I realize that all three main maps for the expansion, will likely have additional areas added. But given this is the final new map for SOTO, what was released didn’t really satisfy the exploration part for me. What was nice though was how quickly the main meta was happening (the beginning part took place at least three times as I was completing the 3 chapters of this part of the story). This is in contrast to the Wizard Tower and Defense of Amnytas meta events from the first part of the expansion where a large amount of time elapsed between them even on day 1.
After completing this part of the expansion, I haven’t been playing much. What mastery insights points the new map gave, I used them all up. And unless there are more that are hidden, I’m going to end up capped again for progressing my SOTO masteries. I know that another factor has played into this; after finally getting 100% map completion on my main, I once again hit that lull point. I’ve been leveling a mesmer in between, but I mainly play that character when I can kill two birds with one stone with Wizard Vault objectives (like when it’s viewing a vista in a zone, completing a renown heart, killing/looting n-number of enemies, etc). But I’ve long concluded that this is how it is for me with Guild Wars 2 which I also view as a good thing (since I can stop playing for long periods, and still come back and resume without missing a beat).
