It was just TWO DAYS AGO that miHoYo updated Genshin Impact to 2.0 with the new Inazuma region. In that prior post, I talked about many players had been speed running the content. I guess I shouldn’t have even mentioned that since yesterday (ONE DAY AFTER THE UPDATE), miHoYo enabled a new event in Inazuma (Thunder of Sojourn) AND previewed the official artwork of the next 3 characters that will be released in the future (Kokomi, Sara Kujou, and Baal). Mind you that only two of the initial Inazuma characters initially previewed back in June, have been released (Kazuha and Ayaka with Yoimiya and Sayu waiting in the wings). miHoYo is pretty much speed running their update and the new Ayaka banner where free to play’s as well as those of us mainly with just the 30 day blessing, are now going to be in decision making mode on what characters they plan to pull for.
miHoYo isn’t being coy about trying to break the wallets of whales with the pace of the previews and eventual rollout of these new Inazuma characters (they still haven’t mentioned anything about Thoma and Gorou yet) in addition to the re-runs (like Ganyu). I know that part of this release of information is to get ahead of the leakers. However, this also detracts from the TWO DAY OLD update which folks like myself, are trying to take in slowly.
The release of the new Thunder of Sojourn event (which runs for 17 days) is really ill timed though (IMHO) because it breaks immersion for myself. A lot of their starting points are on Kannazuka and Yashiori Island, where those two locations have a fog of war via the archon statue on Yashiori; I wanted to slowly make my way there in order to unlock the statue (which reveals the full map for the two islands), to unlock the domain teleports, and all the waypoints. Basically, I wanted to discover all of this as the quests guided me to those locations. Doing and completing the event during its short duration means I need to head to those areas prematurely. My point here is that the cadence just feels off; this event would’ve been better with at least a week gap between it and the update to allow players to focus on the actual Inazuma content.
Instead, it does sort of feed into some of the player community rushing through everything. I get that many find who find that the most fun way to play Genshin Impact, and that maybe this is actually the norm while folks like myself are the outliers. I’m fine with that except when it is miHoYo undercutting their own update with the next character previews and throwing events on top of the new content so quickly. I know I could just not do the event but that is way too many good rewards not to (so I’ve just had to deal with the immersion breaking aspect of this particular event).
