The new Charr based story is now live (just the prologue entitled Bound by Blood). While this is technically Living World Season 5, ArenaNet has chosen to go with a different naming (saga). A new map is introduced (Grothmar Valley) for players to explore along with events which the player must participate in as part of the initial Revels & Rivals quest (you need to fill the progress bar in order to proceed to the next quest objective).
One of the funniest cooperative events that I’ve participated in is the Metal Legion concert where you have a Charr based band jamming out a setlist of three metal tracks (Fear the Metal Legion, Bound by Blood, and Ballad of Soulkeeper) while the players contend with several other event objectives associated with the main one including subduing “crazed fans”, reviving downed band members (that were attacked by those crazed fans), circling the perimeter, jumping in the moshpit, dealing with mobs that pop out of the speakers, repairing concert equipment, cheering to raise the hype level of the audience, and dealing with the boss that spawns once all the other events have been dealt with.
The metal tracks themselves really amp you up (but so does the fact that since this was just released, having a lot of other players also participating; one of the great things about doing content on the first day of release). Obviously, this event will end up wearing itself thin unless new songs are periodically introduced/randomized Still, it was one of the most fun group experiences I’ve taken part in for awhile now. Too bad there isn’t a headbanging or devil horns emote m/
As for the rest of the update, there is also a skyscale roost (since there is a time trial event with them) which is a great way to test the flying mount. After trying out the griffon (since I just unlocked the mount collection for it), the skyscale operates much better (but is also a much longer grind to get). I’m probably just going to focus on getting the skyscale (it gives me a long term objective to shoot for even though I am probably progressing through the game a little bit faster than I expected even at this “so called” leisurely pace that I’ve been doing in the first month).
Since that post last week, I’ve completed the Crystal Champion mastery track and have gotten tier 4 on the raptor, springer, and jackal (I’m only 10% from completing it on the skimmer). I am hoping this new saga addresses some of the designs which I did not find fun (I have a completely separate post I am drafting up regarding this topic) in Living World Seasons 4 (which I am in the process of completing; am going through War Eternal).
