A former PhrozenKeep modder for Diablo II wrote an interesting post over on Reddit regarding their desire to uncover (and attempt to implement) the never released guild hall and arena maps (features that were never released due to the lack of time and a focus shift by Blizzard North to begin Diablo III (the Blizzard North version) after some short downtime following the Lord of Destruction expansion for Diablo II).
Their reinterest came about from the Diablo II entry over at “The Cutting Room Floor” wiki regarding the unused content (specifically the guilds and arenas).
As Reddit user DBLCLN discovered, most of the assets remain in the data files where they were able to recreate the guild hall and arena maps, and load a test character into them.
Diablo II itself had no officially designed PvP officially released (players created their own end game meta) but this unreleased arena had several concepts that Blizzard North was toying with (King of the Hill, Highlander, FFA, Capture the Flag).
It will be interesting to see how modders attempt to reincorporate this content back into Diablo II.
