[Rant] When does speculation on a blog become official news?

First of all, Naver is one of South Korea’s largest/longest running online sites with a lot of user generated content.  The blogging component there is akin to Blogger (blogspot) where anyone who can formulate a sentence, is able to post whatever they desire (much like this blog here).

The Korean blogger is clearly speculating on a September posting from a Korean game site which covered some of the PR that Smilegate had released back then when providing the official launch date for the currently ongoing OBT.  Yet there are a bunch of folks in the western Lost Ark community who picked up this blog posting (machine translation and all), and are saying stuff like the game officially launches on December 12th with a new class being released.

Whisky-Tango-Foxtrot!!!!  Smilegate pretty much telegraphed what they have planned for this and next week with their communication after last weeks patch and it is clear they aren’t even close to transitioning from OBT to official release at this time.  Plus they’ve never just unveiled important information like that on short notice (it’s always been communicated 2-3 months prior).  Yet some folks have somehow managed to take this Korean bloggers speculation, somehow lumped it into Smilegate’s upcoming plans for their upcoming patches, threw in the unveiling of a new class, and moved the game into official launch status.

I guess this is really the major downside of the Internet where it’s too easy to punch up something on a search engine, have foreign language translated literally with machine translation (losing context in the process), and taking way too much stuff as the actual fact (it’s making people too stupid for their own good).
