I previously posted that I felt my.com’s whole closed beta key giveaways were a means to push their founders packs. Looking at the above, I am now glad that I steered away from wanting to actually play this game because the above is a blatant cash grab to move founders packs.
What’s even more astounding is the price of this air balloon mount they are pushing when you consider its cost without the discount from the various founders packs; $48.99
And this is for a game that just only recently completed that first closed beta and had numerous issues with poor localization. I don’t care about whether or not this is chump change from the point of view of an early whale. It is better to not be part of the problem with these free2play cash grabbing publishers that rely on this business model while providing a low quality gaming experience and lack luster customer service.
White knighters are of course trying to rationalize this isn’t a cash grab (and as far as I am concerned, there is no use arguing with these types). From my perspective though, I didn’t have a great first impression before and this just cements it for me because the publisher is already telegraphing how they will be monetizing the game in the future. And given how my original hesitation of Trion Worlds ended up being validated by how poorly they have managed Devilian, I am not going to make that same mistake again with another cash grabbing publisher.
