Devilian – patch 40.1.1.19 patch (open beta)

For those looking to replicate how most isometric ARPG’s work with regards to force stand still/attack in place (shift key by default for both left/right mouse button), the new UI addition allows for that in the current 40.1.1.19 patch that was also rolled out for open beta.

It seems counterintuitive but the game is originally designed to have shift-left click root in place while shift-right click move (to fire off a skill on the right mouse button, you don’t hold shift to attack in place).  I’ve been using WASD with no movement bound to mouse buttons but for this patch, I tried the respective modes to see their behaviors.

The default Devilian and RPG modes needs to be overridden via the advanced options to get it to work with the shift key acting the way that many players are used to.  They should just add a 3rd preset to this list and call it something like classic ARPG behavior since I’m presuming there will be more players coming from games like Diablo and PoE.  But the controls can now be tuned to most everyones liking except for folks who are used to a non-fixed camera like in most MMO’s.

I played around with the settings for a bit and it needs to be set to the following.

Only the right/left mouse click for movement needs to be checked off for the behavior to work. The other two advanced options are personal preferences for players who prefer skills/actions to work based on the direction their character is facing as opposed to where the mouse pointer is located – best to try each out and notice their subtle differences.

Likewise, something similar to force move can be accomplished by completing unbinding movement from both left and right click, changing the keybinding for stand in place from left-shift to space bar, and holding that down while left/right click mousing around (you then let off the space bar to fire off your left/right button skills).
