There’s a number of sites giving away free codes for this last closed beta event. Open beta will likely follow as they head towards an actual launch by the end of this year.
The low level part of the game is basically a tutorial as you quest (the game conveys this in the form of learning tips which when completed, provides some small rewards in terms of currency and experience). The game has a ton load of quests, content, and end game things to do (not including leveling up your alternative Devilian form where you have increased abilities allowing you to take on stronger enemies).
At end game, there is also the max level alternate advancement system (5 additional skill trees for tweaking stats). Original Korean version was max level 60 but the western version as of the beta is 52 (the rest of the content from 53-60 will likely be rolled out buy the time the game launches).
They’ve removed some of the pay2win (some boosts were removed from the marketplace after the first closed beta) but it remains to be seen how much will exist at launch (the Obsidian Founders Pack with the Polar Bear mount for example offers some nice advantages with evasion, movement speed, and reducing the monster aggro range).
Overall, I’m enjoying the adapted western version of the game so far even though it has some UI and character movement/combat issues (mainly with animation lock and responsiveness), no force move/standstill. Early game pacing still needs tweaking (but like D3, goal is to get to max level to play end game content for better gear). Biggest difference is low level Devilian has a crap load of stuff you can still do where it doesn’t feel like a useless time sink.
Dungeons can still be soloed. There’s also “endless” hunting grounds where you can queue up and auto join other players to go on monster hunting adventures/challenges. End game; the Abyssal Tower Tournament is supposed to be one of the key end game challenges though (competitive PvE with leaderboard); 100 floors with each one getting progressively more difficult. Farther you go, the more loot/rewards.
For those who enjoy PVP, there is 3v3 or larger raid style 20v20. In this closed beta, they’ve introduced a new guild related form of PVP called Devilian War.
Gifting is also a big part of the game as your affinity goes up (the higher that affinity, the more bonuses from those gifts).
Myself, I’ve never been into MMO’s, but this one is actually the first one where I’m having actual fun playing.
