Ok, this and the Overwatch “leaks” are obviously intentional now to get some pre-hype going prior to the opening of this years BlizzCon (just a few hours from now).
This one is being targeted for a Summer 2016 release (on or before September 21, 2016). Just for comparison, Legacy of the Void was targeted for a release on or before March 2016. Basically, they are giving themselves a 3-month leeway.
Given these dates are now becoming a little more concrete, where does this leave D3X2? Given the way they’ve been staggering releases to cover various quarters (for financial reporting purposes), there are really only two time periods remaining (since I don’t think they want to launch games/expansions too close to each other). Early 2016 at this juncture is clearly out the question. Which means that D3X2 fits better with a late 2016 launch date ala this years StarCraft II release (around the time of BlizzCon 2016).
I guess that depends on what gets nailed down officially in a few hours (where it will likely confirm both this and the Overwatch release dates). I still believe it will be a stretch that they spring a D3 Expansion teaser or an actual announcement though.
