Players in Australia and New Zealand have literally been stuck out in the middle of nowhere; their default region has always been the America’s, but with ping times measured in hundred of milliseconds. Connecting to Asia (located in South Korea) made no difference.
As someone who occasionally plays hardcore only over on Asia, my in-game latency is always around 260+ms; you can feel the difference in responsiveness at this base. Normally though, it spikes higher to where I eventually got used to queuing up my movements/attacks ahead of time.
But for the past 1.75 years, this has been the norm for Diablo III players in the Oceania region. So it is nice to see Blizzard actually installing a server in this region. It’s not a separate region; it’s an extension of the US servers.
