Quality of Life Proposal
Note: this is not about trading. This is about being able to quickly share items between characters on one Battle.net account.
Background:
This is specifically for those who play multiple characters and tend to share certain items between them. Currrently, one must first load a character in-game first, transfer the item(s) into the shared stash, leave game, switch hero, start a new game, and then transfer the item(s) out of the stash. This process needs to be repeated whenever you want to swap items intra-account.
While it may seem somewhat trivial that clicking that start/resume game button does just that, there are whole processes that do take place on the server (like load creating that instance, memory usage, etc) and like wise when leaving the game. Thus creating/leaving games just for this purpose wastes unnecessary resources.
The following is a general “quality of life” proposition for players who tend to juggle items between characters. Even for those who do not partake of this, there is a benefit of being able to quickly view your entire inventory of items in terms of your shared stash, and each individual heroes equipped items and personal bag, from a main menu option (or be incorporated into the character profile menu for the 2.0.1 client for both vanilla and expansion).
Once the Auction House goes away, we’ll still be able to view equipped items from the character profile menu; but there will no longer be a quick way to see your shared stash from outside a game session.
Proposed Solution:
The Sell Tab interface within the Auction House UI is perfectly suited for this task. It already shows the shared stash and each characters items and personal inventory. Reusing this interface would allow quick viewing all of your items and would also be perfect if it would allow item management outside of the creation of an actual game instance (like when you want to swap/use a piece of gear between any of your heroes – softcore and hardcore of course being isolated from each other).
The user interface functionality is already there; it’s a matter of linking it with the in-game coding that performs the same functions.
Furthermore, with the addition of Clans and Communities, there will be times when you are not in a game where you may want to be able to link an item to chat (public or community/clan conversations) that is in your shared stash. Without any sort of stash interface accessible from the main menu (once the AH’s go away and patch 2.0.1 goes live), the only way to do this will require being in a game to perform those sort of actions.
November 27th Update: Unfortunately, not a lot of views and feedback so I guess there isn’t much interest, and/or probably many don’t realize that a small piece of user interface functionality, will be disappearing once the auction houses are shut down.
This is also meant to function as a stash browser (if that hadn’t been apparent already).
